Depuis janvier 2023, la situation du Mpox concerne 2 régions (Littoral et Sud-Ouest) et 3 districts de santé, avec 35 cas suspects dont 13 confirmés, aucun décès et un taux de létalité nul. La région du Sud-Ouest constitue le principal foyer, notamment les districts de Mbonge et Kumba. L’âge médian des cas est de 33 ans, avec une forte prédominance masculine. Entre le 16 et le 27 mai 2023, plusieurs vagues de confirmations ont été enregistrées, totalisant 13 cas confirmés, principalement dans le Sud-Ouest. On the 5th of October 2022, the disease surveillance focal point of the Presbyterian Hospital alerted the district of a suspected monkey pox case received at the hospital. This patient was immediately referred to the Kumba Regional Hospital annex where the district surveillance team descended to carry out preliminary investigation. Laboratory specimens were collected on the 6th October and sent to CPC Yaounde where it was confirmed positive for monkey pox virus on the 8th of October 2022
